The Black Desert House by Marc Atlan and Oller & Pejic
Designed by renowned creative director Marc Atlan together with the architectural studio Oller & Pejic, the Black Desert House is located in southeastern California, in Joshua Tree National Park. At first, it seems impossible to integrate a residence intro this intriguing landscape without compromising this exquisite scenery.
However, the architects at Oller & Pejic were up to the challenge.
A privileged location
Beyond shelter, Black Desert House is an artistic counter-point to a landscape born of fire, and sculpted over the last 100 million years.
Conceived to read as a shadow cast within great piles of monzogranite boulders, the Black Desert House offers the quintessential desert experience: immersion into the timelessness of the vast desert panorama.
By day the Black Desert House protects like a cave; at night it dissolves in the surrounding array of stars. Informed by the modernist aesthetic, the geometry of the structure minimizes distractions, while curtain glass walls eliminate indoor-outdoor distinctions.
Black walls, midnight quartz, high-gloss anthracite, and darkened steel are used to contrast the harsh desert sun and draw attention to the constantly changing color, light and shade. With the dark color and angular expression, the Black Desert House becomes an almost cave-like element of the scenery, an element that, at nightfall, completely dissolves into the surrounding darkness.
The public spaces open to the sheltered entry courtyard, broad view terraces, and the private swimming pool. Sited at a cooler elevation of over 4000 feet on 2.5 acres, the Black Desert House includes open plan living areas, 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, and a 2 car garage.
The Black Desert House, this 1,570 square foot desert oasis, is available to rent for fashion shoots, advertising, and even as a film location rental.
