Moncler x Mercedes-Benz: The iconic G-Class reimagined in an exceptional collaboration
The fusion of haute couture and automotive engineering has given rise to extraordinary creations. This year, Mercedes-Benz and Moncler continue their partnership by unveiling a unique interpretation of the G-Class, in honor of its 45th anniversary. Presented during the “The City of Genius” show at Shanghai Fashion Week, this bold project merges 90s influences with avant-garde aesthetics.
A 90s-inspired automotive masterpiece
Named “Project G-Class Past II Future,” this one-of-a-kind concept car is the result of a collaboration between Mercedes-Benz, Moncler, and Nigo—renowned designer, music producer, and artistic director of Kenzo and Human Made. For this project, he drew inspiration from an era he considers a cultural and creative milestone: the 1990s.
Moncler’s influence is immediately recognizable in the quilted textile covering the vehicle’s rear, a nod to the brand’s iconic down jackets. The exclusive color combination of olive green, gray, black, and gold gives the G-Class a striking look. Signature details include a gold fuel can, a co-branded spare wheel cover, and a removable boombox-style sound system—a direct tribute to the hip-hop and electronic music scene of the time.
An ultra-limited edition of just 20 Units
While this concept car remains a one-off creation, Mercedes-Benz has taken things further by launching an exclusive production version inspired by the design. Limited to just 20 numbered units, the special G-Class Past II Future edition draws from the design language of the G 450 d and G 500, incorporating unique styling elements.
This exclusive model features a two-tone green and gray paint scheme, chevron-patterned upholstery, and black accents on the window frames and alloy wheels. The collaboration’s logo is subtly embossed on the spare wheel cover, while the interior displays the “Past II Future” inscription on the passenger grab handle and the “1 of 20” engraving on the center console, underscoring its rarity.
A partnership that redefines luxury
Mercedes-Benz and Moncler are not merely reinterpreting the automobile; they are exploring new dimensions of luxury. This collaboration goes beyond vehicles—at the Shanghai showcase, the two brands also introduced a genderless fashion capsule collection, co-designed with Nigo.
This initiative reflects a modern vision where fashion and automobiles merge, creating exclusive experiences. With the G-Class Past II Future, Mercedes-Benz celebrates both its heritage and its future, reaffirming the timeless appeal of its iconic model while propelling it into a new stylistic and technological era.
