La Dolce Vita Orient Express : the return of a legend in Italy
Almost 150 years ago, Georges Nagelmackers realised his dream when he launched the first Orient Express train across Europe, forever redefining the rail travel experience. Today, this iconic experience is making a comeback in Italy with the launch of the La Dolce Vita Orient Express train. This new chapter in the history of the Orient Express promises to captivate travellers with its blend of luxury, history and modernity.
Returning to Italy in spring 2024, the Orient Express offers eight exclusive itineraries departing from Rome, crossing 14 Italian regions and 131 picturesque cities. Each journey is designed to immerse passengers in the culture, beauty and history of Italy. Along the way, travellers will have the opportunity to take part in excursions to iconic sites.
Design inspired by the 1960s
The Dolce Vita Orient Express embodies the timeless elegance of 1960s Italy, with a sumptuous design by the renowned Dimorestudio. The studio, headed by Emiliano Salci and Britt Moran, drew inspiration from the craftsmanship and glamour of the era to create a sumptuous décor. The train has nine carriages accommodating 62 passengers, divided between 18 suites, 12 luxury cabins and the exclusive La Dolce Vita suite. The sumptuous décor celebrates style and sophistication, providing the perfect backdrop for an unforgettable journey through Italy.
Dream accommodation
On board the La Dolce Vita Orient Express, passengers can choose between deluxe cabins and suites, each offering an exceptional level of comfort. The deluxe cabins, with their carpeted floors and beamed ceilings, create a warm atmosphere. The nightly ‘Great Transformation’ converts these cabins into comfortable bedrooms, ensuring a peaceful sleep as you move through Italy’s picturesque landscapes.
The suites, meanwhile, are true works of art, with vibrant colours such as orange and purple, brass finishes and lighting by famous designers. Each suite has a living room, private bathroom and luxurious bedroom.
Exceptional gastronomy
The experience aboard La Dolce Vita would not be complete without a culinary exploration of the highest order. Michelin-starred chef Heinz Beck oversees a gastronomic menu that celebrates local flavours and seasonal produce. The dining car, decorated with geometric patterns and colours inspired by nature, is the ideal setting for savouring refined meals, accompanied by the best wines from each region visited.
Passengers can start their day with a breakfast of Sicilian brioches, homemade jams and freshly ground coffee. In the evening, the Aperitivo ritual offers a moment of conviviality with signature cocktails and antipasti, celebrating the Italian art of living.
With the launch of La Dolce Vita Orient Express, the Orient Express is reviving the art of luxury rail travel. Each itinerary promises an enriching discovery of Italy, while the comfort on board ensures an unrivalled experience. In 2025, get ready to embark on an exceptional journey that will leave a lasting impression on your mind!
